Communication Course Descriptions

CO 102 Communication Skills (3 cr)
This course focuses on basic oral and writing skills, complemented by an emphasis on style and literary techniques. Writing labs emphasize cross-curricular exercises.

CO 302 Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques I (3 cr)
This course approaches essay writing and debate through a study of the elements of argument. Students analyze these elements in selected essays, developing skill in writing and speaking persuasively. Focus is on achieving a clear, concise, and convincing prose style. Prerequisite: CO204.

CO 304 Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques II (3 cr)
This course, a continuation of Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques I, approaches essay writing through the elements of style and the elements of argument. Students analyze these elements in several essays, developing skill in writing and speaking persuasively. Focus is on blending style and substance effectively. Prerequisite: CO302.

CO 402 Writing for Media (3 cr)
This course emphasizes the perfection of writing skills and introduces the student to journalistic writing with appropriate readings and analysis.
